The Spirit of Giving - Monte Joffee
During the holiday season many students were involved in community service activities. The Cares Coat Drive which received an overwhelming response. The sixth grade had a very successful canned food drive. Carol's second grade and Daniela's third grade students raised $277 for the NYC Rescue Mission which provided 141 dinners for people in need. More than $1000 was also raised for our annual "Angel Fund" collection which provides scholarships and financial assistance to students for school activities.
Thanks so much to our students, parents, and staff.
After School Music and Dance Program - Fran Smith
For five years interested Renaissance students have had the opportunity to study music and dance with teachers from the Performing Arts Conservatory of New York (www.pacony.com). Under the direction of Teresa Rishik, the Executive Director of PACONY, Renaissance students have had private or group instruction in piano, violin, cello, guitar, bass guitar, voice, woodwinds, brass, percussion and chorus. This year a new dance program has been offered in the artforms of ballet, modern dance, and tap. The centerpiece of the afterschool program is the opportunity for students to perform in informal and formal recitals throughout the year in the Renaissance Theater.
With this joint program Renaissance students have the opportunity to study with highly accomplished teacher-artists, graduates of some of the best conservatories in the world, concert performers, and winners of major international competitions.
In addition Teresa has volunteered her time and skills in Renaissance music classes and has helped students in music reading, arrangement, transcriptions, musicianship skills, music theory, ear training, and listening skills.
Interested parents should contact Rebekah Oakes, Renaissance Arts Coordinator, at 718 803 0060 ext 116 for details about the program.
